A.W. Beattie Career Center’s executive director provides a written and verbal annual report to the center’s Joint Operating Committee.

Overview

Every January, the executive director of the A.W. Beattie Career Center makes a presentation to members of the Joint Operating Committee (JOC), many of whom may be new and not fully aware of the center’s programs or accomplishments. The presentation and written report include detailed information on everything from budget sources outside the general fund to information pertaining to programs that meet the center’s goal of “college and career readiness.” Reports provided to JOC members include five years of graduate follow-up, three years of information on portable industry-recognized credentials earned by students, 10 years of donation history, and 10 years of grant and allocation awards. Also included is a review of the articulation agreements for each program and extensive review of the cooperative education placement and student externship experiences in which students have been involved throughout the year.

Origin / Implementation

The program was initiated three years ago with the hiring of a new executive director who wanted to better inform JOC members about the center, its programs, benefits to students, and contributions to local industry.

Results / Impact

JOC members, especially those new to the committee, leave the meeting with valuable information about the beneficial impact of the A.W. Beattie Career Center that helps them better understand future staffing and budget requests.
