Staff at Indiana County Technology Center designed web-based forms to help paraeducators track and document their daily activity.

Overview

Indiana County Technology Center (ICTC) is a regional career and technical school, serving high school and adult students. ICTC, which offers 14 programs has a staff of 14 instructors and 10 paraeducators.

In order to assist paraeducators track their daily activities, and to help school administrators stay connected to their efforts, the school developed two different forms/checklists. The first document is designed to help keep a daily log of their activities which is required for Perkins Act documentation. The second form helps document and verify that the mandates of a student’s individualized education plan (IEP) are being met. Both forms, which were created by school staff, are electronic and web-based which allows paraeducators and school administrators to stay in regular contact and to see what activities are being accomplished in real time.

Paraeducators are responsible to log duties and interventions on a daily basis. Documentation is saved under the paraprofessionals folder and submitted to the principal for review. The documents are used to ensure IEP accommodations are implemented and documented.

Origin / Implementation

Launched in November 2014, this project was created at the behest of the principal. The principal wanted a clean and concise way to communicate with the paraeducators regarding their duties as well as to be able to track what they were doing on any given day.

Results / Impact

The principal has seen increased accountability among the paraeducators.
