At a Glance

Guidance counselor Morgan Lynch uses the Remind Me app (https://www.remind.com/) to communicate important school information to Lawrence County Career and Technical Center students in an efficient manner.

Overview

Through the Remind Me app, Ms. Lynch can quickly inform students about important school events and deadlines. She sends messages that cover a range of topics, including scholarships, permission slips and testing dates. As relevant information is shared with Ms. Lynch, she posts it on the Remind Me app, and the messages link directly to relevant documents, such as permission slips. Students may also message questions and comments back to her. Two examples of messages sent via the Remind Me app are provided:

  1. “The Mel Booher Scholarship is in the Guidance Office. You must have a GPA of a 3.0 or higher to qualify. Stop in Guidance for more information!”
  2. CCAC is hosting a Skilled Trades Fair on Tuesday from 9-1. Stop in Guidance for more info!

The messages do not divulge phone numbers or personal information.

Origin / Implementation

Ms. Lynch began using the Remind Me app during the 2015-2016 school year to more effectively communicate with students. The app is free, and information about it is sent home in the new student packet. Students are not required to use it. Ms. Lynch has set up two groups to which she sends messages. One group is made up of current students, and the other group is made up of interested students.

Results / Impact

As of the 2016-2017 school year, 126 students have signed up for the app. Ms. Lynch has received approximately 100 messages through the app.
