Three CTE programs at Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School (BAVTS) utilized the U.S. Army’s March2Success website to help prepare students for standardized exams.

Description

The U.S. Army’s website, found at www.march2success.com, provides access to courses, materials and resources to prepare students and other individuals for standardized tests, support their academic achievement, help them learn new skills, and help them advance in their careers. At BAVTS, students in the Protective Services used the website to help them prepare for the ASVAB exam. Students in the Health Careers program used it to prepare for the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills)/the nursing entrance exam, and students in the Academies of Medical Science and Engineering program used the website to prepare for the SAT and ACT exams. In each program, students completed pre- and post-tests to monitor their progress. Instructors found the website easy to use.

Impact

BAVTS instructors report that students in the three CTE programs improved their scores on the ASVAB, nursing entrance exam, and SAT/ACT after using the website for a semester. They found the preassessments helped to gauge students’ knowledge and skills. The customized learning paths, which consist of lessons and quizzes based on preassessment results, helped monitor and pace student learning. In addition, the website’s practice tests provided valuable opportunities for students to reinforce and demonstrate the skills and concepts they had learned.
